A Gold Medal Rivalry

35 years ago, John Harrington and Mark Johnson played as teammates on the USA hockey team at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. The team, made up of amateur and collegiate players, defeated the Soviet Union 4-3 in a historic face off known as the Miracle on Ice. Team USA then moved on to beat Finland for the gold medal.

This season, the former teammates met as opposing coaches in NCAA Division I Women's Hockey. Talk about a rivalry! Here's what Harrington and Johnson have to say about standing on opposite sides of the bench...

Results: The Lady Badgers and Lady Mavericks faced off six times during the 2016-2016 season, twice in October, twice in February and twice in the first round of WCHA playoffs. Minnesota came out on top, winning six of the six games.
