cloudsplitter gondola ride
closed FOR THE 2019/20 SEASON
It's like a bird's eye view—in flight! Our eight-passenger Cloudsplitter Gondola carries you from the Main Base Lodge to the top of Little Whiteface in fifteen minutes. As you trace the mountain's contours—soaring over streams, ski trails, steep rock faces and thick forests—the beauty of the Adirondacks reveals itself. You'll see Lake Placid and its namesake village. To the east lies Lake Champlain, and to the south stand the tallest peaks in New York State. You'll spot the ski jumps and the Ausable River. At the top, an observation deck and picnic area await you.
These are some of the country's best views, and this is the best way to see them! At the base of Whiteface Mountain, stop in before or after your gondola ride to the Cloudspin Bar & Grill for pub-style fare (we recommend our award-winning Black Diamond Wings!). The Cloudsplitter Gondola and many other activities is FREE with your Olympic Sites Passport!
Before your visit
Check the Updates section of the homepage here prior to your visit. It is sometimes the case in the winter season that the Cloudsplitter Gondola is open only to skiers and riders due to weather conditions, in which case foot passengers are not allowed admittance. This information is always listed under Alerts on the Conditions page as these closures occur during the winter season.
