Russian figure skating duo, Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov are universally recognized as the greatest skating pairs team of all time. They shared a love on and off the ice, were married in 1991 and had a daughter, Daria, in 1992. In November 1995, while rehearsing in Lake Placid for a "Stars on Ice" figure skating performance, Sergei passed away from a heart attached at 28 years old.
A year later, Ekaterina courageously returned to the ice as a solo skater. 20 years later, she celebrated Sergei's life with a tribute performance to her late husband featuring her close friends, figure skating legends and Olympic Champions Scott Hamilton, Kristi Yamaguchi, Meryl Davis & Charlie White, Ilia Kulik, and David Pelletier, as well as Olympic silver medalist Paul Wylie and World Champion Yuka Sato. With over 30 years of performances, the beloved group has a rich and long standing skating tradition in Lake Placid.
Side Trax went backstage to share behind-the-scenes preparations for the show.
