The NYSEF Program
HistoryIn 1972, a group of enthusiastic parents and legislators from Albany initiated a ski racing program at Whiteface Mountain, partially supported by New York State. This program was as the basis of what is now the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF).
After the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, NYSEF expanded to include training programs at the Olympic Jumping Complex, Olympic Sports Complex cross country trails and Gore Mountain.
NYSEF has grown from a staff of two coaches and 20 athletes to over 50 full and part time employees and 350 athletes. NYSEF provides programs for athletes aged 6 to seniors. Some athletes are members of the U.S. Ski Team, medal winners at the Olympics, All Americans at colleges, and champions at the junior level. Ten NYSEF coaches have been involved with the U.S. Ski Team.
NYSEF awards scholarships to deserving athletes from beginning racers to top-level competitors.
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the New York Ski Educational Foundation to provide opportunities for athletes of all ages to reach their potential in the sport of skiing through professional guidance and financial support.
Position Statement The New York Ski Educational Foundation believes the individual sport of skiing teaches work ethics, success, and humility simultaneously. It builds character. We encourage all our athletes to complete college. The NYSEF program gives young men and women the necessary tools to be successful in business and life.
