Children's Ski and Snowboard Lessons

Bringing the family to Whiteface? Make our Bear Den Lodge your first stop. With nearby parking and one-stop shopping for lift tickets, lessons and rentals, we make it easy for everyone in the family to enjoy a great day at the mountain. The Bunny Hutch chair lift connects Bear Den to the rest of the mountain, and a shuttle service runs to and from the newly constructed, state-of-the-art Bear Den Mountain Lodge all day.

Helmet Policy

Children ages 12 and under participating in Whiteface Snowsports School programs are required to wear helmets. All rental packages include helmets.  For more information on helmet safety visit Lids on Kids.

Notes for Parents

  • Children ages 12 and under participating in Whiteface Snowsports School programs are required to wear helmets. All rental packages include helmets.
  • Please allow adequate time for registration paperwork and check-in.
  • Late arrival and check-in may result in denial of enrollment into the program for that day. Please plan accordingly. Remember to leave enough time to get rentals before you register.
  • Children's lesson times may include organization time, rest periods, cold weather breaks, or playtime depending on the need of the group. If a child refuses to participate in the program, the child will be allowed to remain indoors or a parent will be contacted.
  • You will receive a numbered tag that corresponds with the number your child is assigned. You must present the tag when you pick up your child. It is your responsibility to give the tag to whoever is going to pick up your child. If the tag is lost, children will only be released to their legal guardian with proper photo ID.
  • All children's programs have been structured according to age-appropriate activities. Please do not try to place your child in a program that is not designed for his/her age group.
  • Please evaluate your child's skiing or snowboarding skills realistically. Whiteface offers terrain challenges. If your child is unable to perform at his/her class level, Whiteface staff reserves the right to move your child to the appropriate level.
  • Please notify Whiteface Bear Den Mountain staff regarding any special needs your child may have. Please include food allergies, dislikes, physical or medical considerations. Please detail all information on registration forms.
  • Whiteface staff will not administer medications. If your child requires medication during the time he/she is at Bear Den Lodge, it is the parent's responsibility to administer the medication.
  • A parent must remain at the mountain if a child is enrolled in Bear Den Mountain.
  • Should an emergency arise, parents names will be put on chalkboards at the base of every lift and announcements will be made regularly. For our Play-n-Ski Program (ages 4-6) parents will be issued a pager for emergency purposes.
  • Children in the Junior Adventure program (ages 7-12) may need to ride chairlifts with other members of the skiing public, Whiteface staff or with other children in their group.
  • Children in the Play-n-Ski program (ages 4-6) are required to ride chairlifts with an adult. In order to accommodate group lessons, children may need to ride chairlifts with other members of the skiing public.
  • All children must be picked up no later then 4:00 p.m. from all programs.
  • Please refer to our Mountain Checklist to insure your child brings the appropriate clothing.
  • Please be advised, cell phone service is limited on the mountain.
  • Children must be 1 year old and walking to be enrolled in the nursery. Parents will be issued a pager for emergency purposes.
  • Proof of your child's age may be required upon check-in. Please label all belongings.
  • To make sure your child's day starts out right, bring their boots inside at night to dry out and warm up

Ages: 1-6 | Non-Skiing

The Cub Camp Nursery is a friendly and fun place for young, non-skiing children to play, relax and make friends. Kids participate in supervised activities such as arts and crafts, games and sing-a-longs all day long. They can choose from a large selection of toys and books or can curl up in front of a movie shown on our flat-screen television with surround sound.

Children participating in the Morning session ONLY must be picked up by 12:00 p.m. Afternoon and Full-Day sessions end at 4:00 p.m. All children must be picked up no later then 4:00 p.m. Please review the Bear's Den Nursery Schedule

Ages: 4–6 | Skiing all ability levels

If your children want to be outside skiing and having fun, this is the program for them. Grouped according to ability, children are supervised in the Bear's Den Nursery before and after lessons. They are on the snow for one-and-a-half-hour periods in the morning (10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.). If your child is enrolled for the Full-Day program he or she will take a lunch break in the Nursery from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Children participating in the Morning session only, must be picked up by 12:00 pm. Afternoon and Full-Day sessions end at 3:00 p.m., and children remain in the Nursery until they are picked up. If your children want to be outside having fun, this is the program for them. Whiteface has teamed up with Burton Snowboards to create a Riglet Park for the little ones. The Riglet Park has extra small terrain park features which, coupled with the latest teaching techniques, dramatically changes the dynamic of the snowboard lesson and opens up more possibilities for younger riders than ever before. With fun rolling terrain and features, younger snowboarders will have the opportunity to test their balance and try some new things in a special area designed just for them. They are on the snow for one-and-a-half-hour periods in the morning (10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.) and afternoon (1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.). If your child is enrolled for the Full-Day program he or she will take a lunch break from 12:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Children participating in the Morning session only, must be picked up by 12:00 p.m. Afternoon and Full-Day sessions end at 3:00 p.m., and children remain in the care of Whiteface staff until they are picked up. Ages 4-6. Skiing beginner through intermediate levels

Nothing builds skills like repeated, consistent practice. The Future Medalist program offers children ages 4-6 years old 10 consecutive Sunday sessions from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Bear Den Mountain. This is an introductory skiing-only program for beginner through intermediate levels. Our program coaches are specially trained and committed to helping children find success and enjoyment in skiing. The earlier kids start skiing and snowboarding, the better. At Whiteface kids learn in a fun setting and develop a lifelong affection for mountain sports. In our Junior Adventure program, we'll teach your kids the fundamentals of the sport. If they already know a bit, we'll give them more to practice. Children are grouped according to ability. They're on the snow for two-hour periods in the morning (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) and afternoon (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.). Full-Day program includes the morning and afternoon on-snow sessions and lunch. Children participating in the Morning session ONLY must be picked up by 12:00 p.m. Afternoon and Full-Day sessions end at 3:00 p.m. Children may be picked up at 3:00 p.m. but no later then 4:00 p.m. Please review the Junior Adventure Schedule.

The Cloudsplitter club focuses on fun and learning and experiences. The program coaching staff will focus on getting in lots of runs and the non-competitive aspects of skiing and snowboarding.
