Lake Placid Olympic Museum Philip G. Wolff Endowment
Keeping the Flame Alive
The only official Olympic museum in the United States, the Lake Placid Olympic Museum features the largest collection of winter Olympic artifacts outside the International Olympic Committee's (IOC's) museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Started by the community in the days prior to the 1980 Winter Olympics, the museum organizes, produces and promotes programs that provide educational experiences to local residents and visitors from around the world.
Here at the birthplace of America's first Olympic Games and later the site of the Miracle on Ice, America's most famous Olympic moment, we tell the stories of those who organize, compete and believe in the spirit of the Olympics.
Continuing Phil's Legacy
Olympic organizer, community leader and the oldest licensed bobsled driver in America, Phil Wolff was a founder of the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. His vision was to expand the museum's outreach to youth, showing them what people from all nations, committed to excellence, are able to accomplish together.
The museum's Endowment has been named the Lake Placid Olympic Museum Philip G. Wolff Endowment to honor his memory and his many contributions to the museum's success.
