New Year's Open Sliding Championship
Holiday memories are made of events like this.
This one of a kind sliding experience is open to the public and takes place New Year's Eve at the Olympic Sports Complex. Each slider will get a one-of-a-kind racing experience as they enter the track from "Start Five" and race down the lower half of the mile-long track. "Racers" will get a first-hand experience negotiating Lake Placid's famous curves known to Olympic racers around the globe, such as the "Labyrinth" and the "Chicane", before concluding with the three-turn combination known as the "Heart". Prior to their first run on a training sled, USA Luge will offer world-class coaching from the likes of 1998 Olympic silver medalist Gordy Sheer and former national team coach Dmitry Feld, as well as others to be announced at a later date.
As athletes, family and friends wait their turn to slide, or as a victory run is being celebrated, there will be food, live music and entertainment available. Each athlete, their friends and family, will never forget New Year's Eve 2011. Advance registration is required and will end on Dec. 27. You may secure your spot by calling 518-523-4436 or email
oscreservations@orda.org. Both sliding and non-sliding spectators are welcome.
