Bear Den Picnic Hike at Whiteface
To understand Whiteface from the bottom up, take a guided hike to the top of Bear Den Mountain. You'll set off from the Kids Kampus, climbing 1,400 feet along a 3.2-mile trail. With your knowledgeable guide pointing out native trees and describing the mountain's natural history, you'll learn all about the plants and wildlife found in the Adirondacks—and log some good exercise, to boot. At the top: a picnic lunch and majestic views of the Ausable River Valley, Whiteface Ski Resort and the quaint town of Wilmington, home to some of the best trout fishing in the Northeast. The hike will take a total of about 3.5 hours, roundtrip. A box lunch will be included. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring a back pack to carry water and lunch. This is considered a moderate-level hike and is recommended for adults and children 12 and over.
